India: Ship Recycling Tonnage at Alang Grew in the First Half of the Year
As reported by BigMint, an Indian platform for price reporting, market intelligence and consulting for commodities, India’s ship recycling industry increased recycled volumes at Alang by 16 percent year-on-year to 569,000 light displacement tons (LDT) in 2026.
One year earlier it was 491,500 LDT, “despite vessel arrivals remaining broadly unchanged at 51 ships compared with 52 ships” in the first half of 2025. As per BigMint, larger tankers and container ships, rather than higher vessel arrivals, drove the increase in dismantling volumes.
