Optimistic Outlook for Battery Recycling on a Global Scale
According to DataM Intelligence, the global battery recycling market, which was valued at 3.39 billion US-Dollar in 2025, is projected to reach 40.72 billion US-Dollar by 2035, expanding at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 28.3 percent from 2026 to 2035.
“The market has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments within the circular economy, driven by the rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), expanding battery energy storage systems (BESS), and increasing demand for critical minerals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite, and manganese,” the market research and consulting firm informed. “Investors are increasingly focusing on advanced battery recycling technologies that recover high-value materials, reduce dependence on virgin mining, and strengthen domestic critical mineral supply chains. Supportive government regulations, extended producer responsibility (EPR) policies, and sustainability commitments from automotive and battery manufacturers are further accelerating investment in large-scale recycling infrastructure.”
Investment momentum would continue to strengthen as battery manufacturers, automotive OEMs, recycling companies, and mining firms expand recycling capacity through strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and next-generation hydrometallurgical and direct recycling technologies. Recovery rates were improved due to developments in closed-loop battery recycling, AI-powered battery sorting, black mass processing and material extraction. At the same time, environmental impact and production costs declined. “Looking ahead, the growing volume of end-of-life EV batteries, advances in second-life battery applications, and increasing localization of battery supply chains are expected to create significant commercial opportunities,” DataM Intelligence emphasized.
